Abstract: The 2008 World Union of Wound Healing Societies Principles of Best Practice: Wound Infection in Clinical Practice consensus document was reviewed and revised by the International Wound Infection Institute. The update provided the opportunity to explore contemporary advances in wound infection knowledge and practice. Awareness of the presence and impact of biofilm has advanced enormously and the wound infection continuum has been revised to account for this. Terminology has also been updated.
